It is with great sadness we record the passing of Alastair McNeil previous Chair of the WCRIFG.
Alastair worked tirelessly as Chair of the extensive and diverse west coast region until he retired in 2019. Anyone who worked with Alastair will have been struck by his intelligent, modest and mediatory demeanour. He commanded everyone’s respect by his positive attitude and the fair and inclusive manner in which he conducted RIFG business.
Alistair spanned vast distances of Scotland’s coast to ensure he was present at every stakeholder gathering and became a great friend and mentor to many giving his all for our fishing industry. I’m sure the entire RIFG network will miss his calming presence, his wisdom and his genuine care for the Scottish fishing industry.
With sincerest condolences to all of Alastair’s family and friends.
The Regional Inshore Fisheries Groups (RIFGs) aim to improve the management of inshore fisheries in the 0-6 nautical mile zone of Scottish waters, and to give commercial inshore fishermen a strong voice in wider marine management developments.
